Sri Lanka'nın Oddamavadi bölgesinde bir köy okuluna geldik. Buradaki insanların yardıma ihtiyacı olduğu için bir müddet geçinebilecekleri erzaklar dağıttık. Bu sırada erzak için oluşturulan sıranın en arkasında merdivende oturan iki teyze ve bir yaşlı amca gördüm. Ayakta durmakta zorlandıkları için okulun merdivenlerine oturmuş sıralarını bekliyorlardı. Ben de yanlarına gidip tanışmak istedim. İsminin Ümmet olduğunu söyleyen yaşlı teyze beni görünce duygulandı ve gözleri parlamaya başladı.
Ümmet teyzenin kızı kalp krizi nedeniyle vefat etmiş. Torunlarının babası da yakın zamanda vefat etmiş ve 3 torunu hem yetim hem öksüz kalmış. Ümmet teyze " Kocam yaşlı olduğu için çalışamıyor. Sizlerin verdiği bağışlarla 3 yetim torunumla geçinmeye çalışıyoruz. Sizler de benim evlatlarım gibisiniz. Sizlere ve yardım eden herkese dua edeceğim." dedi. Ümmet teyzenin bu cümleleri beni çok derinden etkiledi. Ve sonrasında onunla sohbet ettiğim için çok duygulandı ve bana sarılmak istedi.
We came to a village school in the Oddamavadi region of Sri Lanka. Since the people here needed help, we distributed food to help them survive for a while. Meanwhile, I saw two aunts and an old uncle sitting on the stairs at the back of the queue for food. Since they had difficulty standing, they sat on the steps of the school and waited for their turn. I also wanted to go and meet them. The old lady, who said her name was Ummet, got emotional when she saw me and her eyes started to shine.
Aunt Ummet's daughter passed away due to a heart attack. His grandchildren's father also passed away recently and his 3 grandchildren were left orphaned. Aunt Ummet said, "My husband cannot work because he is old. We are trying to make ends meet with my 3 orphaned grandchildren with the donations you gave us. You are like my children. I will pray for you and everyone who helps." she said. These sentences of Aunt Ummet affected me very deeply. And afterwards, he got very emotional because I chatted with him and wanted to hug me.
